Kum ve kaya kal\u0131nt\u0131lar\u0131n\u0131n olu\u015fturuldu\u011fu \u0131s\u0131 ve bas\u0131n\u00e7 sonucunda bug\u00fcn petrol olarak adland\u0131rd\u0131\u011f\u0131m\u0131z enerji kayna\u011f\u0131 olu\u015fmu\u015ftur. Yer alt\u0131 havuzlar\u0131nda ya da kaynaklarda s\u0131v\u0131 veya gaz \u015feklinde bulunan petrol, tortul kayalar\u0131n i\u00e7indeki bo\u015fluklardan ya da yery\u00fcz\u00fcne yak\u0131n katran kumlar\u0131ndan elde edilir.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yery\u00fcz\u00fcne \u00e7\u0131kar\u0131lan petrol rafinerilerde i\u015flenerek g\u00fcnl\u00fck hayatta ve end\u00fcstride kullan\u0131lan \u00fcr\u00fcnlere d\u00f6n\u00fc\u015f\u00fcr. Benzin ya da motorin gibi ta\u015f\u0131t yak\u0131tlar\u0131, plastik ve benzeri kimyasal \u00fcr\u00fcnler, asfalt gibi end\u00fcstriyel \u00fcr\u00fcnler petrolden yap\u0131l\u0131r. Ayr\u0131ca petrol, elektrik \u00fcretiminde ve pestisit gibi tar\u0131m kimyasallar\u0131nda da kullan\u0131l\u0131r.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Y\u00fcksek enerji yo\u011funlu\u011fu, ta\u015f\u0131t yak\u0131t\u0131 olmas\u0131 ve end\u00fcstriyel uygulamalarda yayg\u0131n \u015fekilde kullan\u0131lmas\u0131 nedeniyle en \u00f6nemli enerji kayna\u011f\u0131 t\u00fcrlerinden kabul edilir. Metansa bir karbon, d\u00f6rt hidrojen atomu (CH4) i\u00e7erir. Hem d\u00fcnya y\u00fczeyinde hem okyanus tabanlar\u0131nda biriken do\u011fal gaz, bitki ve hayvan kal\u0131nt\u0131lar\u0131n\u0131n toprak, silt ta\u015f\u0131 ve kalsiyum karbonatla kaplanmas\u0131 sonucu olu\u015fmu\u015ftur. Asl\u0131nda olu\u015fum s\u00fcreci petrol ve k\u00f6m\u00fcrle ayn\u0131d\u0131r. Do\u011fal gaz renksiz, kokusuz ve tad\u0131 olmayan bir enerji kayna\u011f\u0131 olmas\u0131na ra\u011fmen enerji \u015firketleri bu gaz\u0131n i\u00e7erisine kokulu ve zarars\u0131z bir kimyasal ekleyerek do\u011fal gaz s\u0131z\u0131nt\u0131lar\u0131n\u0131n tespit edilmesini kolayla\u015ft\u0131rmaya \u00e7al\u0131\u015f\u0131r.
