The Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) is a regulation developed by the European Union to prevent carbon leakage and encourage low-carbon production. Under this mechanism, companies are required to report production-related carbon emissions for specific product groups.

Starting from January 1, 2026, it came into effect in 6 critical sectors with a high risk of carbon leakage, namely iron-steel, cement, aluminum, fertilizer, electricity, and hydrogen. Working in harmony with the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS), the mechanism will be expanded to cover all products within the scope of the ETS by 2030.
